DEFHR’s main facility in Woodbine, Maryland, is available for drop-​in tours 7 days a week from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Click here for more info.

About Abuse

Abuse is defined as the act or practice of mistreating or causing harm to a person or animal. Neglect is defined as failure to take care of or give attention to someone or something.

Body Condition Scoring

DEFHR uses Body Condition Scoring (BCS) to evaluate each horse upon arrival; this score is documented and used as evidence in court proceedings.

Equine Emergency Response
