Youth Legacy

Youth Legacy

Please Note: All youth wanting to volunteer at Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) on weekdays during Summer break must be enrolled in DEFHR's Youth Legacy program or be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Youth Legacy program is for volunteers ages 12-17 and is a great way to jumpstart your child's volunteer experience at Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR)! Enjoy a full day of learning, fun, and friendship at DEFHR!

Participants will learn about a variety of topics relating to horse care and handling, delivered through classroom instruction and reinforced through hands-on learning activities. Participants will also be given the opportunity to participate in one riding activity during each session.

A typical daily schedule includes:

  • 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM : feeding and horse care
  • 10:00 AM - Noon : barn chores
  • Noon - 12:30 PM : lunch break (Youth should bring a packed lunch.)
  • 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM : special topic educational instruction and activity
  • 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM : feeding and horse care
  • 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM : end of day wrap-up

Cost*: $150 per one-week session (EARLY BIRD SPECIAL! Enroll before March 15th and save $10 per participant! Good for one session. Please deduct discount on application under total charged.)

Each session will accommodate only 30 participants per weekly session, so registering ahead of time is critical.

Parent: "This was a fantastic program. I liked very much that my son got an opportunity to do real work and get a lot of time working very closely with the horses. The Student Service Learning hours were an added benefit. The price was a real value. I would definitely recommend this program to others."

Parent:"The staff were absolutely phenomenal! Staff were super patient with my child, adjusted expectations to meet his needs, and helped build his self-confidence with praise and encouragement."

Parent:"I had envisioned my child becoming involved with an activity larger than herself. The results were amazing. I think the horses have found a new best friend."

Parent:"We were very satisfied with our Legacy week with DEFHR. Telling lots of friends about it. We'll be back next year for sure!!"
