Zippo originally arrived at DEFHR as an emaciated yearling colt out of Calvert County in October 2006, along with 8 other neglected horses. From the start, despite his poor condition, he had a mind of his own and definitely gave staff and volunteers a run for their money! Zippo was adopted twice since 2007, but after his most recent return to DEFHR in April 2016, it was decided that Zippo would be evaluated as a possible DEFHR Program Horse. It was clear to our trainer that Zippo had significantly mellowed out as he gained maturity and had turned into a puppy dog gelding with a sweet personality. Under saddle, Zippo requires a more experienced rider outside of the ring. However, in the arena he is suitable for an advanced beginner to intermediate rider. Zippo was used for the Legacy Program's under saddle games days this past summer 2016, which he passed with flying colors. It's clear to us that Zippo has found his calling as a DEFHR Equine Ambassador! We are looking forward to featuring him in various onsite activities to help spread awareness about DEFHR and the rescue horse!

Zippo is available for grooming and riding support through the DEFHR Family Forever Program.
