DAYS END FARM HORSE RESCUE
Allan Schwartz Accepted On VMAT-2 Team
By Sue Rosenberg
Lisbon, MD – 8/2/2005 – Allan Schwartz, Vice President and Co-Founder of Days End Farm Horse Rescue, has been accepted as a member of the VMAT-2 team.
Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams (VMATs) are specialty teams established by the American Veterinary Medical Association and trained to respond to natural and man-made disasters. VMAT-2 is based in Maryland, with members residing around the country. Two of VMAT-2’s most notable deployments were the Pentagon and World Trade Center on 9/11. They also responded to the Avian Influenza outbreak in Virginia in 2002.
The people making up a VMAT are veterinarians, technicians, veterinarian biomedical scientists and support personnel. As of May 15, Allan Schwartz became a member and Logistics Coordinator for VMAT-2.
Dr. Patrice Klein, Team Commander of VMAT-2, called Schwartz a “welcome asset to our team, with a wealth of talents, skills and knowledge based on his horse rescue work.” She said Allan “is able to interact with a number of different disaster-related agencies and personnel, such as animal control officers, various state agencies and private humane groups like the Humane Society of the United States.”
According to Klein, Mr. Schwartz has “incredible capabilities. He is level headed and understands how to strategize in the field during disasters, and mitigate injuries to animals in those situations.”
