The Alton Fire Department brought trucks and equipment for use in the horse trailer turnover over demo. Part of the training addressed the extrication of a horse from a turned over horse trailer.Other material covered included placing an emergency halter on a horse, containing loose horses, rolling a recumbent horse. A lift and glide plus ropes and slings were used in demonstrating the moving or raising of a large animal.
Thanks to Matt Gasper, who let the training group sink him into the mud, the mud rescue segment of the training could be completed. Tips for ice rescue and other specialized situations were also discussed. As with any emergency situation, it is necessary to manage the scene. That and the compilation of a basic emergency kit were also taught.
