DAYS END FARM HORSE RESCUE
Equine Emergency Rescue Teams Established

Lisbon / Woodbine –May 18, 2006 - Days End Farm Horse Rescue has established two first-responder equine rescue teams that are available to assist police, fire, animal control, veterinarians, and private owners during times of equine emergencies. The first team known as ERT (Emergency Rescue Team) will assist with Equine and other large animal emergency rescues in the tri-state area of Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware. The second team called the RED (Rescue of Equines in Disasters) team will be on call to support major national animal welfare organizations during times of natural disasters anywhere in the United States.

Days End Farm Horse Rescue is a nationally recognized non-profit, volunteer-based animal welfare organization whose mission is to Foster compassion and responsibility for horses through intervention, education, and outreach. “For years, we at Days End have provided needed emergency animal rescue support in the community as well as in the aftermath of national disasters, such as Katrina and Rita,” said Kathleen Schwartz, Executive Director and co-founder of Days End. “We have dreamed of having a more comprehensive and expansive program; one that consists of a larger cadre of fully-trained volunteers and staff available for simultaneous emergencies should they occur at the local and national levels. We are now on the road to fulfilling that dream.”

The new equine rescue teams are under the management of Brooke Vrany, the Director of Programs and Emergency Services at Days End Farm. Brooke, who helped develop the program and set up the teams, has six years of experience at Days End and four years of emergency rescue experience. Fully certified in Large Animal Rescue, Brooke is also an accomplished instructor in the field.

The members of Days End’s equine rescue teams include Brooke Vrany, Erik Anthony, DeEtte Gorrie, Joseph Jones, Chris Knight, Rebecca Cowell and Erin Ochoa. “We look at the teams as an important first-step that will lead to 24/7 emergency response and the expansion of educational seminars on emergency animal rescue techniques both at the farm and nationally,” said Days End’s Brooke Vrany. “There is an obvious need for these services, and we at Days End are grateful for a chance to make a difference in the community, the tri-state area, and around the country.”

In recognition of the work done over the years in the field of large animal rescue, Days End Farm was asked to provide standby emergency animal ambulance service at the 2005 Presidential Inauguration Parade in Washington, D.C.

Days End Farm Horse Rescue has long been nationally recognized for its work in the fields of equine rescue and rehabilitation, their educational programs, community outreach, and animal disaster recovery. In 2005 Days End was the recipient of the American Association of Equine Practitioners “Lavin Cup” award and Independent Charities of America’s “Best in America” award.
