Scout Days

Girl Scout learning to lead DEFHR horse Joker's Jinx.

Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) offers a two-hour program designed specifically for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

DEFHR's Scout Day Program includes a tour of the farm, horse tales—stories about how the horses came here, horse care (hoof, dental, nutrition), hands-on horse grooming, hands-on horse leading; and a short riding demonstration. This program allows numerous troops to join us on one day to gain knowledge and develop a passion for horses. Don’t delay! Scout Days fill quickly!

Participants will experience the joy of working with horses while gaining confidence and a sense of responsibility. Not only do the activities introduce basic horse care; they are designed to teach patience, kindness and compassion. Participants will earn a Days End Farm Horse Rescue Badge. Additionally, this program meets some of the requirements for each of the following badges:

Girl Scouts:

  • Junior Animal Habitats Badge
  • Senior Voice for Animals Badge
  • Make Your Own Badge (any level)

Boy Scouts:

  • Horsemanship Badge
