Horses Adopted 2003:

Friday - 20 years, 16.3 Hands, Chestnut QH Gelding (tattooed). Friday was impounded by animal control along with 12 other horses all from the same farm. They came to DEFHR due to starvation, long hooves, and unsanitary conditions. Friday is a calm, gentle giant on the ground, but hasn't been evaluated much under saddle. He seems to have a good, level head on him.

Nestle - 10 years, 16 Hand, Bay TB mare. Nestle was recently returned from her adopter due financial hardship. Nestle is a great hunter/jumper prospect or a flassy dressage horse. You train. Advanced beginner to intermediate rider required. Adopted September 2003

Vinny 11 Years Old, 13.2 hands, Pinto pony gelding. Vinny came to us in May 2003 from animal control. He had overgrown toes and had foundered. (He could barely walk!) Vinny is an incredibly sweet guy who just needs to learn to trust again. He is a little scared of new faces at first, but if you approach slowly he will be fine. He loves attention and loves being groomed. Adopted September 2003 |

Iona - 10 years, 15.2H, Tri-Color Paint Mare. Iona came to DEFHR in March 2003 along with 11 other horses all from the same farm. They were impounded due to starvation, long hooves, parasite infestation, and neglect. Iona has been ridden under saddle at the walk, trot, and canter. She is a very nice mare with a good level head on her. She will make a nice English pleasure horse. Very flashy! She does require front shoes due to thin soles. Adopted October 2003

Antsie -9 Year Old, 14.2 Hands,
Bay Mustang Mare
(Wt. Limit = 170lbs) Antsie came to DEFHR as a stray with no handling or training at all. Antsie is now in training under saddle at the walk, trot, canter and doing wonderful. Adopted November 2003 |

Opie - 7 Year Old, 14.2 Hands, Black Arabian gelding
Opie is a handsome young man who has tons of potential. He can sometimes get the air under his tail and strut his stuff. He has been started under saddle.

Chocolate Chip 12 Year Old, 9.1 Hand, Chocolate brown with stripes Cecilian Donkey. Choco came to DEFHR after living in the basement of a house. He came in with a horse named Beetle Bailey. They were both impounded in July 2003. Choco is an extremely friendly donkey who loves attention. He will actually follow you around his paddock until you pet him and acknowledge that he is the cutest critter on the farm.

Varmit - 7 yr. old - "B"
Miniature >35" Chestnut Gelding
Has hind-end issues causing him not to be able to be ridden or driven. Has a sweet temperament and loves to be the center of attention.

Rainbow -20 Years Old, 11.1 Hands, Chestnut Pony mare. Rainbow is being refreshed under saddle and is doing well. She will need a little more work but our Trainer Suvi and daughter have started working diligently. She would love to have a child of her very own to play with. Adopted November 2003 |
 | Zepplin -2-1/2 months old, Chestnut QH? colt . Zepplin and his mom Alley arrived at DEFHR in July 2003. They were impounded by animal control due to starvation and neglect. Zepplin was extremely underweight, weak, and could barely walk. He was also covered in rain rot and had open sores on his body. He is now healthy and has been weaned from his mom, American Alley. Boones Berry Booze - 5 Year old, 17.1 Hands, Chestnut TB Gelding
Has been raced on the track before coming here and is no longer ridable. He has old bowed tendons on both front legs and OCD in his right stifle. He may at times require treatment with antiinflamatory medication. He is currently comfortable running in the field with the geldings and would be a wonderful companion to other horses. He is very playful and loves attention and grooming.

Indigo
20yrs, 16 hands, Dark Bay TB Gelding
Indigo needs front shoes at all times due to thin soles.
He is capable of doing light trails and is very well mannered on the ground. He is now placed in forster care.

Qupid - 3 year Old, 14.2 Hands, bay Arabian filly.
Currently, is being trained under saddle and is doing well. She has displayed a wonderful personality and loves to be handled.

Fortunes Fame - 9 year old, 15.3 Hand, TB mare Fortune came to DEFHR after being impounded by animal control. She is emaciated, infested with parasites and has a fused righ knee from an old injury. Once she has regained her weight she will be available for the SOS program as a companion. Adopted.

Elissas Elliott -
16 month old, 12 H, Chestnut TB filly
Elissa is stunted and has been starved from birth by her previous owner. She is severly infested with parasites. She is currently on 4 meals a day and vitamin and mineral supplements. We are deworming her very carefully but we are unsure as to how much damage has already been done. We hope for the best and are doing all we can to give her a chance. Adopted.

Pig Pen - 30 Year old, 14.1 Hands, Gray Appy Mare
Pig Pen arrived at DEFHR in 1991 with abcesses in all four hooves. Once recovered she was used in our lesson program. She has been shown and won many ribbons. Our lesson program was discontinued a couple of years ago. Despite Pig Pens age and her limited vision she continues to teach Animal Control Officers, Girl Scouts and many others in our many educational programs. She is now adopted .
