A case of abuse

Kneeds Kisses and Jo-Jo, Standardbreds, have suffered both pain and dejection their entire life. Kisses is a 4 year old mare and Jo-Jo a 3 year old Stallion. They have spent their whole life living in a small pen in a Chicken Coop suffering from lack of farrier care, companionship, adequate nutrition and little or no attention. As they lived in their confinement their growth plates suffered seriously causing their growth to be stunted and their bones to be malformed. Their hooves became longer and longer and as the years went by their limbs became twisted, eroding the bones and the circulation in their hooves thereby creating deformities seen clearly on x-rays. Jo-Jo, obviously the healthier of the two, managed through constant circling to wear down three of his hooves. Unfortunately, since he circled mostly to the right, his left hoof continued to grow and became deformed. His navicular bone, normally resting above his coffin bone, (last bone in the hoof capsule) is now what he is walking on.

Is their any hope for their full recovery? Despite trimming, medical care, farrier care and nursing by DEFHR staff, these horses are going to require more if they are to recover enough to have a quality of life. Kisses and Jo-Jo will need your prayers and divine intervention to even give them a chance for a pain free existence. Please pray with me that they get a chance to see that human kind really can be kind and that they get a chance to experience it first hand. If they can not recover to the point where they are comfortable playing in the fields, as they were meant to be, please pray that we have the courage to end their suffering.
