Kathleen Schwartz-Howe
Kathleen Schwartz-Howe is Board Chair and Co-Founder of Days End Farm Horse Rescue, a leading equine shelter for horses suffering from severe cruelty or neglect for over 15 years. Kathy has produced a nationally distributed book entitled Guidelines for Establishing a Non Profit Rescue Facility that is available to others wishing to help rescue horses in their own community. Recently, Kathy has been involved in the Unwanted Horse Summitt helping to ensure a better life for horses. Kathy Schwartz-Howe and Board President, Terri Zseleczky traveled to the AAEP convention in Seattle, Washington in December 2005 to accept the Lavin Cup Award on behalf of Days End Farm Horse Rescue, its staff, volunteers and donors.

Brooke Bierman-Vrany

Brooke Vrany, Director of Programs and Emergency Services has six years of experience in emergency rescue and dealing with sick, injured, and downed horses. Brooke is certified in Large Animal Rescue and has received training in the use of Large animal rescue equipment, Large animal rescue Lift systems and operations, scene management and operations, Trailers and trailers operation, Water rescue operations, night time animal rescue, biosecurity and zoonoses. She has been instrumental in saving the lives of many horses that found ways to put themselves in surreal situations, sometimes beyond belief.
Brooke has attended the Equine Investigators Academy which included seminars that taught; Role of animal cruelty investigator, laws and legal system, animal law, investigative procedures, interview and interrogation techniques, handling admissions and confessions, rules of evidence, rules of search and seizure, evidence documentation and testimony, report writing and case packaging, veterinarian and peripheral reports, crisis intervention and officer safety, case studies, presentations, hoof care, condition scoring, cardiac recovery index, trailer safety, transportation, loading and restraining, equine nutrition, colic, stress, trauma, disease, lameness, wound treatment and care, ranking second in her class.
Brooke has been involved with horses all her life and was a CHA Certified Instructor and has ridden, worked, shown and trained horses for many years and instructed in riding lesson programs and summer camp. She is a team player and has great management skills. We are very proud to have Brooke as a member of our team.

Erin Ochoa

Erin Ochoa is Days End Farm Horse Rescue's Farm Manager. Erin has been riding horses since she was 3 years old. She grew up with active involvement in the U.S. Pony Club and U.S. Dressage Federation Young Riders. She is an Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and is a member of the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association. She has attended numerous clinics in equine care and horse training.
Erin has a background in business and has worked as a Human Resource Manager and Marketing Director. In addition, she worked as a veterinarian technician for 3 years while attending college. She has a college degree in Education. Erin and her husband own a farm in Washington County and currently have 6 horses of their own.
Erin's job duties at Days End Farm include care, maintenance, treatment and management of the horses at Days End, training and evaluation of horses, volunteers and adopters, management of barn staff, volunteers and program participants. She also assists with the educational programs and helps to maintain horse records.

Susan Mitchell

Sue Mitchell is the Development Coordinator at Day’s End Farm Horse Rescue. She comes to DEFHR with two decades experience in local 501 (c) (3) nonprofit development including fundraising, communications, marketing, public relations and graphic design. Sue is also an avid horse lover.
She took her first riding lesson at six and was hooked. Sue remembers the many life lessons she learned growing up with a variety of equine friends ranging from mischievous ponies to sweet retirees to hot headed dressage mounts. Sue is also an animal welfare advocate and volunteers for feline and wildlife rescue organizations.
Sue’s scope of responsibilities include proposal writing for grants/corporate partners, soliciting sponsorships for and planning our fundraising events, spreading the word through our many CFC booths, coordinating our Development Committee and soliciting Major Gifts.

Heather Napolitano

Heather Napolitano is the Office Manager at Days End Farm Horse Rescue, she started in April 2005. She has a background in Office Administration, Bookkeeping, Marketing, Database Design, Computer Graphics and Design, as well as Web Page Design. She comes to Days End with 15 years of Administrative experience in business, and is an avid horse lover.
Heather is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico where she and her mother owned an Arabian horse farm. She was actively involved in training, showing and breeding Arabians. She also gave riding lessons to many young girls. She moved to Maryland with her husband in 1987 and has a small farm in Carroll County with 2 horses, one of which came from Days End.
Heather’s job duties at Days End Farm include managing the day to day administration of the office, bookkeeping, database accuracy, mailings, helping with event coordination and assisting the Executive Director in any area needed. She wears “many hats” and is very excited about her future with Days End Farm Horse Rescue.

Lea Gilbert

Lea joined the Days End Farm staff FT as our Administrative Assistant in September of 2005. She is a certified bookkeeper and has over 20 years of experience. Her duties here at the farm are varied, and include answering the phone, data entry, correspondence and helping out in any other capacity as needed. Lea came to the farm with a desire to help the horses and hopes to help further educate the public about the great work that is being done here.

Brittney Carow

Brittany is currently our Full-Time Education Coordinator at Days End Farm Horse Rescue and directs our Internship Program. She was origionally hired as our Assistant Farm Manager but has moved up! She origionally volunteered at Days End Farm when she was 12 years old and continued on for many years until college. Brittany was hired in 2007 after she graduated from the University of Maryland's Equestion Program with a degree in Equine Science. We are very glad to have her back abd she is a huge asset to our programs.

Chelsea Miller

Chelsea Miller is a Full-Time Barn Assistant and Part-Time Rescue Tech at Days End Farm Horse Rescue. She grew up with a love for horses and started volunteering at Days End in the summer of 05. Chelsea was hired on as part-time staff in September of 2005. Chelsea is currently pursuing her BS degree in Equine Science at University of Maryland. Her current job duties at Days End include; care, feeding, medication, training and maintenance of the horses, and supervision of volunteers. |
