Days End Farm Horse Rescue
2005 – 2010 Goals
    General
  • Create and implement a Days End Disaster Plan
  • Create a Safety Plan &Train Staff & Key Volunteers in First Aid & CPR
  • Train Volunteer leaders to expand DEFHR programs
  • Improve Data Entry information
  • revaluate data entry procedures and document the procedure
  • evaluate quarterly to ensure compliance and to make corrections
  • Create a Board committee to establish future goals & create a five year plan
  • Create a Days End Farm Operations Manual
  • Document participation in all programs
  • Create criteria and materials to evaluate all programs
  • Evaluate all programs

    Hope Program - Rescue & Rehabilitation

    Rescue; (receiving of Impounded horses due to abuse)

  • Create M.O.U.’s with the county animal control and humane agencies
  • Create new Brochure
  • Reevaluate the Policies and Procedures
  • Set up an Impoundment Fund and give it a name
  • Meet with the Directors in each County
  • Meet with the State & County Attorneys in each County
  • Work with county agencies to track instances of horse abuse through PAWS or county coordination.
  • Set up the “Rescue Fund” for use when counties cannot pay for rehab care.

    Rehabilitation;

  • Improve the Facilities used for care of our equines rescued (new farm)
  • Improve the tracking of Days End’s Adopted and SOS Equines with the use of Volunteers through the Farm Committee.
  • Work with Volunteers to expand the equine training program
  • Work with Volunteers to implement Safety plan Intensive Care (ICU);
  • Create a form of communication to keep the staff, volunteers and public more informed on the status of horses in ICU .
  • Purchase a weight scale for accurate weight measurement
  • Create at least two stalls at new facility set up for intensive care horses.
  • Create a reference book on drugs and supplements most commonly used at Days End and list uses and side effects. (Small PDR)
  • Expand facilities for use (De II & III)

    Extended Care;

  • Expand the training program with the use of volunteers from the farm committee
  • Implement a safety plan with the use of volunteers from the farm committee
  • Increase cardiovascular fitness of horses through increased training, evaluation and riding.

    Adoption Program / SOS;

  • Improve the tracking and timeliness of Days Ends adopted horses through increasing the use of volunteers (Farm Committee)
  • Increase intake/adoption ratio by increasing qualified training for vol/staff through horse related activities, advertisement.
  • Evaluate, amend the adoption contract/process
  • Visually chart the adoption process (Board)
  • Expand the off site Foster care program

    Foster Care;

  • Increase the number of program horses to 6 to meet the needs of the programs
  • Document the policies and procedures for foster care evaluation
  • Work with staff and volunteers to better monitor the process

    Share a Heart Program - Education Programs;

  • Secure Volunteer leaders for programs
  • Increase the numbers of programs presented through promotion of the programs and training of volunteer leaders
  • Secure volunteers to create PowerPoint presentations on all DEFHR Seminars
  • Create new brochures for all programs
  • Create handout materials for all programs
  • reevaluate and document policies and procedures for all Days End programs.
  • Capture names and addresses of all attendees
  • Send Press Releases for all training programs at DEFHR
  • Promote this program to youth organizations and educational institutions

    Equine Cruelty Investigators Seminar;

  • Provide two training seminars yearly
  • Provide two additional seminars in conjunction with East Coast Animal Control training Academy
  • Provide additional seminars as requested for agencies outside of Maryland.

    Large Animal Rescue Training

  • Provide two LART training classes at DEFHR yearly
  • Provide 6 LART Training Classes at Expo
  • Provide 4 additional classes in other states yearly

    Farm Days Program

  • Provide training to volunteers and evaluate volunteers participating in the program
  • Promote this program to youth organizations and educational institutions

    “Horse Lover’s” (Was Girl scouts)

  • Provide training to volunteers and evaluate volunteers participating in the program
  • Promote this program to youth organizations and educational institutions

    Level I & Level II – Horse Owner Program

  • Provide program yearly
  • Enlist industry professionals for speakers

    Community Outreach;

  • Provide Days End Booths at the following events;
  • Horse Expo MD & PA
  • Equine Extravaganza VA
  • Combined Federal Campaigh Booth
  • Other booths as requested if volunteers are available to man.
  • Increase outreach to rescues
  • Increase outreach to industry professionals
  • Attend and provide expertise for the “Unwanted Horse Summit”
  • Provide instruction to AHC on what the MHC-EWC has done to help MD horses.
  • Increase outreach to Disaster Professionals

    Heroes for Horses - Volunteer Program;

  • Evaluate Volunteer Orientation
  • Create policies and procedures for handling new volunteers
  • make better use of volunteer skills
  • Develop volunteer retention policies and procedures.
  • Train staff on new procedures
  • Implement plan
  • Provide additional training to volunteers
  • Evaluate volunteers participating in the program

    Disaster Services

  • Create a program including policies and procedures for implementing training for volunteers to form a two RED Teams. (RED=Response for Equines in Disasters)
  • Have a team available to provide disaster services to states in the mid-atlantic region
  • Create MOU’s with other agencies and Days End in regards to Days Ends response to disasters.
      -Have Code 3 Associates & Carroll County MOU
      -HSUS
      -MDA
      -County Agencies (PG, MO, Charles, HO)
