Large Animal Rescue Training

Equine in Disasters, whether natural or due to an equines natural proclivity to get themselves into trouble, has been a grave concern to Days End Farm Horse Rescue for many years. In response to this concern, in 1999 DEFHR began the ERRIN (Equine Rescue & Rehabilitation Network) Project.

DEFHR addresses immediate disaster relief needs throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, (including Southern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia), by offering our services as an emergency response team in cooperation with other disaster relief agencies such as Code 3 Associates and County / State Officials.

Specifically, the response team will operate a fully equipped four-horse stock trailer that can be brought to the scene of a disaster, accommodate the rescued horses, and provide a sheltered area for medical treatment. Brooke Vrany, Days End's Director of Programs and Emergency Services is well-qualified to direct and perform these services in light of her certification in Technical Animal Rescue and Disaster Relief.

DEFHR also offers training in Large Animal Rescue Tecniques to assist horse owners, Veterinarians, Fire and Rescue Personnel, EMT's, Aniimal Control Officers and Humane Agency Personnel across the country. Below is a partial list of the agencies or conferences where we have provided training:

  • MD, NJ, PA Horse Expo
